Don’t Judge Me
Music and Lyrics by Mat Greaves
As a gypsy I’ve traveled many places
Forests, jungles, and of course desert spaces.
One island I have been, harbors the worst kind of sins
An island few know, and fewer still ever wish to go.
And few come back alive, I did what I had to to survive.
And I do it to this day. Old habits die hard anyway.
So please, good people, please, look inside yourselves
And don’t judge me…
I met a man who claimed to beat his wife and his child
with a stick twice as thick as his thumb.
I followed him home…
His black heart complimented my rum.
Now the wife and child no longer live in fear.
Thanks to me that bastard is no longer here.
So please, good people, please,
Look inside your black hearts, and,
Don’t judge me because I eat people.
I do what I must to survive.
Don’t judge me because I eat people.
As it is most don’t deserve to be alive.
I met a Catholic Priest; he loved his altar boys far too much.
I followed him home…
Had the sick bastard’s brains for my lunch.
Now the altar boys no longer fear this man,
I fried his brains with rosemary and cayenne. (Yum!)
Please, good people, please,
Look inside your own sick brains and…
Don’t judge me because I eat people.
I do what I must to survive.
Don’t judge me because I eat people.
As it is most don’t deserve to be alive.
I met a vicious assassin,
Hell-bent on killing the Queen.
I followed him home..
Ate his liver with some fava beans and a nice chianti.
And the Queen lives to this day.
Perhaps she can hear the pretty songs that we play?
Oh please, good people, please,
Look inside your own livers, and
Don’t judge me because I eat people
I do what I must to survive.
Don’t judge me because I eat people
As it is most don’t deserve to be alive.
(tempo increase)
I went to see an opera; lead singer was a tad off-key
I followed her home…
Italian lungs tastes great with Turkish coffee.
Saw Shakespeare play; Juliet forget one of her li-i-i-ines.
I followed her home…
Her French tongue tasted great with red wine.
Saw belly-dancing show; Lead dancer missed one of her steps.
So I followed her home…
I feasted upon her gorgeous legs
Now better talent fills all these parts
I do this because I… Love the Arts!
Please, good people please,
Look inside yourselves and…
Don’t judge me because I eat people
I do what I must to survive.
Don’t judge me because I eat people
As it is most don’t deserve to be alive.
(slower tempo)
Playing guitar in the streets, I saw a soldier pass by.
He was a hero and a general, a protector of your people
For his country he would die.
Weary from the war and his toil in his journey
He lacked grace and accidentally scratched my guitar.
I left him alive; because he was a hero I showed mercy,
I only ate his arms, you see, I show mercy too!
I’m good and moral just like you!
Please, good people, please,
Yes, please, good people, please,
Look inside yourselves and…
Don’t judge me because I eat people.
I do what I must to survive.
Don’t judge me because I eat people
As it is most don’t deserve to be alive.
Don’t judge me because I eat people.
I only do what I think I should.
Don’t judge me because I eat people.
It’s not my fault that you all taste so good.
