Upcoming Gig! Spring Escondido Renaissance Festival! April 27th-28th, and May 4th-5th!

Ladies and gentlemens, boils and ghouls! Gallows Humor is pleased to announce our next gig! We shall be playing both weekends of the Escondido Renaissance Faire, located in Felicita Park in Escondido, CA. Stage times will be announced as soon as we find out, but we’ll be playing several times a day both days of both weekends. We will also have a small guild encampment where we will be hanging out between sets, available for pictures, signing of things, and other, non-specific shenanigans. Below the post is a link to the faire’s web page, which will have directions, prices and all the other information.

This is a really great faire, and we’ve played it in the past, loving every minute of it. Besides us, there will be a multitude of other entertainment and musical acts, such as Adam the Bawdy Juggler, Fowl Tales, The Universe According to Galileo, Capt. Jack Spareribs, and many more. Check them all out, they are fantastic. Hope to see you there!

St Patrick’s Day (Drinking Time!)

Happy St. Patrick’s everyone! As I write this, I am 2 green beers down, and the corned beef and cabbage* are in the slow cooker. I usually like to look up holidays, and I actually found out a bit of interesting information about St Patrick’s Day, and the customs surrounding it. I don’t think I can type up a properly eloquent essay, so you get bullets.

  • The original color associated with St. Patrick was blue. It was gradually changed to green.
  • Shamrocks, and the use of same imagery comes from a legend that claims that St Patrick used a shamrock, which has three leaves, to explain the Holy Trinity to the pagan Irish.
  • In Ireland, St. Patrick’s day is a religious holiday more than an ale-soaked frat party like it is here in the States. Not that an ale-soaked frat party is a bad thing.
  • * Corned beef and cabbage is not considered a native dish in Ireland, though in the Renaissance era, they had a similar dish. Modern corned beef was adopted by the Irish immigrants in New York. Corned beef, after being smoked, is pastrami.
  • Lenten restrictions against eating and drinking alcohol are lifted for St. Patrick’s day, allowing the faithful to imbibe along with the rest.

That is my five minutes of wikipedia for you all. And since (in ‘Murica, at least) this is a drinking holiday, allow me to link a video appropriate to the holiday.

Last night’s rehearsal

As promised, here is a video that we shot during the rehearsal last night. As always, we had a blast playing together. We usually experiment a bit during rehearsals, and so it doesn’t always sound as polished as on-stage, but I think it still sounds pretty good. If you all ask nicely, I may upload a second video, of Pala Tute that was also shot last night.

Rehearsal day

Today is rehearsal day. If I get five comments asking me to, I will video a snippet of it, and have it uploaded by tomorrow midday.

665, and other news…

This morning I woke up to find that the Gallows Humor facebook page has 665 likes, which is a jump of 13 from where it has been sitting at for a good while. I’ll definitely try to get a screenshot of it at 666, but it’ll be just my luck that 2 people will click ‘like’ at the exact same moment.

In other news, work on the Album has been progressing steadily. All of us in the band have different schedules, and we are all spread out across most of the Inland Empire. Except for me, that is. I live out by the Port of Los Angeles. Point being, our recording studio is in Long Beach, and so it’s a long haul for everyone *but* me. It is in fact happening, though. It’s gonna be great, and we can’t wait to get it out there for all of you!

Welcome to the Gallows Humor Blog!

Happy Sunday everyone! Today is the day I post the link to this blog on our Facebook page, thus making it somewhat official. Please bear with us, as the layout is not completely finalized yet and so will be likely to change a bit in the days and weeks ahead. It occurred to me that I won’t ever be satisfied with it until I get some kind of feedback. So, feed me, people! Let me know what you like, don’t like, ask questions on the ask me feature on the right hand menu, send commentary, offer up your views on life and undeath…

It is our goal to interact with our fans more frequently, and to give you all updates on what it is we’re doing, both as a band, and as individual people-things. Obviously not a lot of content yet, but that will change as time rolls on.

Na Zdrovya,

Pavel

Grand Opening!

Na Zdrovya, everyone! Pavel Malikov here, welcoming you to the new Gallows Humor blog! It’s definitely a work in progress right now, so please bear with us. Any suggestions for content are appreciated as well, both for layout and content. First thing I want to add to this puppy is a question box, so that you all out there can ask the band questions. I’ll see what I can get started.
